Because legal issues permeate every aspect of owning and running a business, the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center (JWBC) Business Women of Color Taskforce organized a workshop for women business owners to learn “The Legal Side of Business” June 27 at Havana Jax Café.
Conducted by Florence Chen and Jo-Anne Yau, partners of Yau Law Firm in Jacksonville, the workshop focused on regulatory requirements to start a business and how to protect the business as it grows.
For start-ups, the discussion included how to comply with both federal and state laws regarding licenses and articles of incorporation. Information for existing businesses included how to handle litigation, intellectual property, asset protection and contract formation.
